PDA to interact with Car FM/CD/AUX music on demand, Ideas?

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can help out with a problem I am trying to solve.

I have a PDA that I am using for in car sat/nav. The PDA transmitts navigation commands such as "Turn Left" etc via the PDA speaker.
The problem I have is that the car stereo has to be turned down when using the PDA due to the internal speaker being low power. the PDA has a standard headphone socket

To solve this I was wondering if when the pda makes a sound, then a signal could be transmitted to the car hi-fi to silence to music, let the pda do its thing, then return the car h-fi to normal. I am guessing that using the RDS capability of my car hi-hi would do the trick.

Then looking at pcs web site, I got the idea that it must be possible to trigger the car-hi-fi to mute, switch channel via RDS to a new frequency, & transmit the pda sound to the car & then reuturn to music..

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Tim

I'm not trying to take this off of what you need help on, but what is this about rds switching channels? Can you trigger a car's radio to mute?

rds ?

You can't do what you want. You need to be tuned to a station to be
able to do anything via RDS.

Your better bet would be to use the mute input of your radio. Most
car radios have one for the purpose of hands-free GSM package,
which mutes the radio while you make a call.
