I have obtained some interesting results when testing the max pro when accompaning it with a veronica amplifier.

As some of you may know veronica amplifiers have a green led which indicates output strength, this becomes brighter in accordance to how much power is being fed through the amp and into the antenna.

Tuning the max pro when hooked up to this amp again can give you an output reading by the virtue of the fact that the green led becomes brighter the more the max pro is tuned up.

First of all, always tune into a 50 ohm load. Do not tune with
an amplifier attached, its load could be quite a bit different from
50 ohms. Never tune any transmitter terminated into an amplifier.
Do it into a dummy load.

Second, if you're going to measure/compare power, get
a power/SWR meter.

While tuning was being conducted the amplifier was connected to a 50 ohm balanced feed 5/8ths wave, once tuned the aerial was re-adjusted to optimum length for frequency.

Nope, what your antenna was is not relevant.

What is relevant is the impedance that the exciter/transmitter
"sees", and that is not antenna but the input of the amp.
