Hi all,
I think my card is finally dead, but i want to make sure. I have an oldie--i believe it's a 2004, and has worked fine for years. However, it doesn't seem to be recognized by the Device Mgr anymore (XP).

I seem to recall this being an issue at certain points, but could have sworn it was worked out. I've actually tried swapping slots as well as trying different drivers, but no go.

Any last ditch advice?

I'd say its time for an upgrade. Well, it worked well for 6 yeas, not bad.

PCI MAX 3000 is supported by SAM, give it a try, I'm sure you will love it.

You're probably right--tho i'm not clear on how to make the new cards external. I've decided that would actually be easier than the internal card.

Also, what was the power output of the 2004/2005? Since there are options now i want to make sure i get enough (but suspect 100 would be enough..)

I'd say 1W is the sweet spot. Can't go wrong with it.

These cards can easily be used outside the PC. Just connect power supply (12V/1A), the connector is already there (typical power jack, center is positive).
Next connect usb cable and you are set to go.

Of course it is good to put this in some kind of enclosure for protection.

OK--forgive this stupid question, but it can be used without having the PC on, right? I'm assuming the USB is just to set frequency and other settings, but once set it's autonomous, right?

Until you power it off it is.

If you want stand-alone solution look at cybermax micro. It is the same unit, but with small LCD control. You can still set frequeny etc via RS232.
