Anyone out there want a PC card produced to do AM ?
530 to 1710 Khz, or at least the upper part of AM 1200 to 1710 ?
If not a PC card, how about an AM PLL kit like the MAX PRO 2 ?
Any interest?

I'm certainly interested.

AM cannot be easily amplified externally as can FM, therefore, I want to see a project with 1 to 5
watts on board, if mounted inside a PC.
I do not care if it is PCI or ISA slot, only the power is important, within audio quality standards
that are "great" for voice, "good" for music.
Even better, make a stand alone kit like the MAX PRO 2 with 5 to 10 watts out, audio driven by adequate sound card output or other audio source .

LPF is a bitch with these, would you mind if there were no LPF?

If you mean a low pass filter, I think that's a necessary "option"
I would like a low pass external filter that is tunable. E F Johnson used to make a
tunable filter that worked very well.
LPF is a problem

The problem is that these transmitters generally cover
from 540 to 1700 KHz, which is unpossible to cover with just
one LPF. It requires multiple filters and switching system.
Any ideas?
pll am board: 100 Mw, super efficient, cheap, legal

How much trouble is it to make a small PLL board 100+ Mw. that is mountable at the top
of antenna mast with a whip antenna above it that is full legal length so as to be legit in US ?
-something that is mountable inside a short length of 2" pvc pipe to weatherproof.
Same board can be made for indoor use to act as a rabbit for rebroadcasting CD or internet
programs
We stuff audio and DC volts up an inexpensive shielded audio cable to the top of antenna mast.
-this maximizes the signal strength, there being no coaxial cable=less loss.
-frequency is set one time with dip switches.
Power out: 5 to 6v up the line gives 100 Mw input (up to 15v yields more)
I know 100 mw sounds puny, but if mounted up 40 feet or so, I think 1/2 mile might
be possible (~1000 meters)
I know people who are interested in simulcasting off the internet all over town
with dozens of 100 mw stations on the same freq. creating a quilt to blanket a small city.
with pll it can be possible to limit hetrodyne of signals to minimum.
this AM design may outsell all the others out there as the signal would be better than
anything out there. I don't care about lower end of AM spectrum just the upper end
is fine, 1400 to 1710 khz even 1500 to 1710
Offer it in kit form, and assembled and tested form.

A low cost 1watt AM PLL (not PC based) would be interesting
In the UK RSL (28 day) stations can use 1W on AM. At the moment most opt for FM instead but with a shotage of frequencies in some areas (London) AM could stage a comeback in the next few years !?!
Ideally an AM rig woud tune 520-1710 in either 9 or 10KHz steps (or even 1KHz steps) and have good modulation and good SWR ruggedness (for those who want to experient with long wires)
A shortwave option would be a nice add on (by flicking a switch or changing some components) although It might drive the cost up too much
An optional filter (tuneable or LPF @1750 KHz) may be needed for licenced operation

AM MAX - 1 is coming soon, folks. I'm not telling you the specs yet,
but I'll bet you'll be impressed.
I'll just say this: MAY

Antenna? I'll post some designs for making a home made antenna.
Those things are mostly just wire and not that hard to make. But
they are HUGE.

Allright, AM MAX I is finally out and really kicks ass.
Pushes up to 35-40W PEP (CW power).
Initial quantities will be tight until September, first come first served.
