If you attempt to use a TV antenna your signal will jump all over the band, your swr will go through the roof and your rig will eventually blow its main output transistor.

Not to mention your effective range will be about 2foots worth of harmonics

I think this depends on which area I wish to cover and where the site is. If the site is outside a city and you wish to cover the city a yagi could be preferable as well as 5/8 can be quite sufficient if you are within the area you wish to cover.

What coax did you use to make the kite light enough to lift off the ground?

it certainly wont have been RG8 or 213, low loss stuff weights a tonne!!!

if you used 58 you probably lost 50% power through the coax so height gained would have been severely comprimised by RF power lost i'd ...

Not all antennas need to be tuned to frequency, some are "no tune" these are usually folded dipoles.

I assume you can transpose the output of the tuning test tone to some form of digital power output scale, for example a multimeter? for a more precise reading.

Tune it to 88

.1 wont make any discernable difference, its a matter of millimetres (if that!) by the time you have hauled the aerial up and its been buffetted by the wind and covered in rain and whatever other weather elements are thrown at it,all your precise accururate measurements will count ...

As i understand it there is a 2mhz bandwidth on the Comet,
I can confirm it performs adequately at these outer ranges.

Hmmm now the error message is still occurring, :-? regardless of audio level input... :-? It does not seem to be effecting output range or stability.

Preferred Antenna

I know this is subjective and subject to your environment but what is widely regarded as the most favourable antenna for LPFM use ?

While tuning was being conducted the amplifier was connected to a 50 ohm balanced feed 5/8ths wave, once tuned the aerial was re-adjusted to optimum length for frequency.
- its ok to tune the max pro in this circumstance?

Some interesting results from the Max Pro

I have obtained some interesting results when testing the max pro when accompaning it with a veronica amplifier.

As some of you may know veronica amplifiers have a green led which indicates output strength, this becomes brighter in accordance to how much power is being fed through the amp and into ...

5/8ths antenna radial elements lowering radiation pattern?

I am interested to know if there no proportional value for the radials length with respect to the operating frequency or are the radials cut to a nominal length?

According to a link posted by 'Fleeting Glimpse' the duty of these radials is to lower the angle of reflections so you dont waste too ...

It is a fairly solid antenna.
Performance is good especially in built up areas the signal does hold up quite well. Their is a thread on this site which explains in some depth about the supposed "gain" it has - suffice to say it isnt quite as much as it initially seems...

However it is an easy tune ...

It is believed that in 5 years the UK FM band will largely dead as DAB takes over, the DTI are stepping up their efforts to "cleanse" the band and get given oodles of cash by the government to effect such a cause before the big switch off. Still as much as they try London still has the biggest ...

Re: re: help please

Step 2. The range will depend on how high you get your antenna and how clear it is of nearby obstacles. Outside on a chimney pot is ideal, but in aloft would be acceptable but would reduce range a bit. I presume you have read the instructions on how to make an antenna. I wouldn't bother with ...
